YuE2 AI Music Detector

YuE2 is the leading open-source AI music generator — and a fair question for anyone vetting tracks: can it be detected? We tested our engine on official YuE2 demo outputs. Here are the honest numbers, and what actually works for verifying authorship.

What is YuE2?

YuE2 is an open-source AI music generation system (code Apache 2.0, model weights CC BY-NC 4.0) from the m-a-p research team. You give it lyrics and a style prompt, and it renders a complete song — vocals and accompaniment — at 48 kHz stereo. It's the open-source answer to closed AI music generators like Suno and Udio: free, local, no subscription, no download caps.

If you're evaluating open-source AI music tools, YuE2 is currently the most complete: it plans an editable composition (ABC notation) before rendering, supports zero-shot covers, and its outputs can be monetized by individual creators. The trade-off is technical setup (24 GB NVIDIA GPU on Linux) — and, as covered below, its output currently evades AI music detectors.

Creators can monetize YuE2 output freely; companies need a separate license for the weights. For a closed-source comparison, see Suno vs Udio.

Can YuE2 output be detected? Our honest test results

We ran official YuE2 demo outputs through our engine. Current result: not reliably detectable. Multiple official demo tracks (pop, jazz reharmonization) scored near 0% AI-likelihood with high confidence — the engine reads them as human-performed.

Why: YuE2 is architecturally different from Suno and Udio. Those are diffusion-style generators whose fingerprints (spectral over-smoothing, uniform dynamics, arrangement priors) our engine knows well. YuE2 plans music symbolically first (editable ABC notation) and renders through a flow-matching pipeline — a different generation process that leaves different, subtler statistics our current model doesn't flag.

What this means in practice:

  • If you're vetting a track for AI content, a YuE2-generated song will currently read as human on most detectors — including ours. Provenance (project files, stems, session evidence) matters more than ever for open-source generators.
  • If you're a YuE2 creator being falsely accused, current AI-music detectors will not flag your track — but keep your project files and takes as evidence regardless.
  • We keep testing YuE2 releases as they land and will update this page — the same honesty we apply to Suno v6-era coverage.

The broader checker still covers the closed-source giants: Suno (including verified v6-era output) and Udio-style generation are reliably detected.

How to verify authorship of a YuE2 track

Until audio detection covers YuE2, provenance evidence is the route:

  1. 1

    Keep the project artifacts

YuE2's workflow is white-box by design: the ABC-notation composition plan, generation logs and rendered takes are your provenance chain.

  2. 2

    Version and timestamp your work

Save intermediate renders and the session state. A dated trail of drafts is stronger evidence than any single final file.

  3. 3

    Disclose openly

YuE2's own license encourages attribution (#YuE2). Open disclosure avoids the accusation entirely — and several platforms now reward AI disclosure instead of punishing it.

YuE2 detection FAQ

Is YuE2 free?

The code is Apache 2.0 and individual creators can use and monetize YuE2 output freely (attribution appreciated, not required). Companies need a separate license for commercial use of the model weights. Running it locally needs a 24 GB NVIDIA GPU on Linux.

Is YuE2 a Suno alternative?

It's the leading open-source alternative — free, local, no download caps, with an editable composition layer Suno doesn't offer. Quality is competitive on benchmarks, though it demands more technical setup.

Can AI detectors catch YuE2 songs?

Current detectors — including ours — do not reliably flag YuE2 output. We tested official demos through our engine and they score as human-like, because YuE2's symbolic-planning architecture produces different statistics than the diffusion-style generators detectors are trained on. We re-test every YuE2 release.

Is a YuE2 song copyrighted?

Purely AI-generated music is not copyrightable in the US; human-authored layers (your lyrics, your edits to the composition) can be. YuE2's license lets individual creators monetize output regardless.

How is YuE2 different from Suno and Udio?

Open vs closed source, local vs cloud, and architecture: YuE2 plans music as editable notation before rendering, while Suno and Udio render end-to-end with diffusion-style pipelines. Different workflow — and, for now, different detectability.

Will Sonicert detect YuE2 in the future?

We keep testing every YuE2 release and will update this page with results — positive or negative. Detection of open-source, symbolically-planned generators is an open research problem, and we'd rather publish honest coverage gaps than imply capabilities we can't demonstrate.
